Diabetes today is topping the list of health diseases. From the number of people getting affected with the problem, it is important to have a timely diagnosis and treatment of diabetes. The blood sugar level rises in diabetes and if not controlled can lead to many other health problems like heart diseases, cataract and deep skin ulcers. Although, medications play its sufficient role in managing diabetes, one should implement some changes in lifestyle for to control the disease.

We have consider some lifestyle changes for a better diabetes management and live a healthy life overall.

Diet

Keeping a healthy and limitation on eating some foods in itself becomes the great treatment of diabetes. But the question arises what to eat and what not to. The diet should be balanced, should include high proportions of unsaturated fatty acids, fibers, antioxidants and vitamins. Avoid foods rich in cholesterol from your routine diet, as they increase the chances of coronary diseases and slot in fiber rich foods, fruits and whole grain foods.

Managing Weight

Managing weight helps you a lot in managing diabetes, being overweight is the main risk factor for diabetes. And if you’re overweight and diabetic too than its high time that you should start losing weight because obesity leads to an increase in blood glucose concentrations and resistance to insulin which can make diabetes management complicated. Diabetic patient should go for a customized program or to a certified trainer for weight loss program. Managing weight in long run helps you to be less dependent on medications and also keeps cardiovascular diseases and hypertension at bay.

Workout

Physical activity is another better aspect for diabetes management program. Make a habit of regular workouts, while you exercise your muscles use sugar for energy and thus sugar levels get controlled here, it also response to insulin. It’s not at all necessary that you go straight to the gym for these, even light activities like normal housework, gardening and being on your feet for other household jobs helps bringing down the blood sugar level. Increase in the problem can be lower down even with routine exercise and keeping in notice the must do points like consulting physician or doctor before going for exercise program, sleep well, monitoring blood sugar level regularly and staying hydrated.

Know your Medicines

No doubt, medications play their role in treatment of diabetes, but you should be well aware of the medicines you’re taking. Strictly do follow the medicine schedule prescribed by your doctor or diabetes health care provider. Know the medicines and their generic names you are taking and how they work for you. If you’re a traveler, keep enough medicines and supplies in your bag and keep a list of your medicines with their alternative names, in case if you lost your medicine bag.

Self Monitoring of Blood Glucose Levels

Checking blood sugar levels regularly can help you lot in managing diabetes, at least before meals and at bedtime. Keeping note of it is a self analysis of what you have ate, for how long you’ve exercised and other parameter which you should follow for controlling diabetes.

Relaxation Therapies

Many are unaware of this but health disorders like anxiety and stress makes you vulnerable to develop diabetes. Stress causes the increase of hormone cortisol, effecting blood glucose levels in the body. Relaxation therapies like yoga and deep breathing techniques helps you to cease stress indirectly keeping control on diabetes.
