Indian Tiger: National Animal of India

Tiger is a subspecies animal, native to India. Tiger has been classified as endangered by IUCN as the population is estimated to be lower down to 2,500 tigers with a decreasing trend. Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their power and strength.

Out of the eight races of the tiger, the Indian race, the Royal Bengal Tiger is found almost all over country with the exception of the north western region. Unfortunately, due to negligence of authorities and poaching the tiger population of India is decreasing at an alarming rate. In fact, some of the tiger reserves do not have any tigers at all.
