When is Yom Kippur?

What is Yom Kippur?

Starting on the first day of month “Rosh Chodesh Elul”, many Jews get up and go to synagogue every night; this is a custom which is known as Selichot. At synagogue they pray for forgiveness till morning and then go to work. This custom becomes more and more intense, and reaches a peak on the 10 days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur which is known as “Yamim Nora’im”. During this time, Jews ask for forgiveness from God and each other and also greet each other with blessing “May you be inscribed in the Book of Life”.
