Bekal Fort

Bekal Fort: Beautiful Tourist Place in Kasargod, Kerala

Bekal Fort is the largest fort in Kasargod, Kerala, India. It is actually 18km from Kasargod. An important feature of this fort is water tank and its flight of steps, tunnel opening towards south. A rare view of this fort considered is magazine for keeping ammunition and wide and broad steps primarily to the observation tower. The zigzag entrance and trenches near the fort is the defense strategy built in the fort.

The fort was actually built exclusively for fulfilling defense requirements. The holes on the outer walls of fort are designed for the defense. This is extraordinary evidence of technology for defense strategy. Fort is spreading over 40 acres, near about 350 years old and was built by Sivappa Naik of Ikkeri dynasty in 1650 AD.

Bekal Fort faces the Arabian Sea. It stands on a promontory between two long classically beautiful palm fringed beaches. The main tourist attraction nearby the fort is Centuries old fort and pristine backwaters.
